Acousti-Curtain™ Custom Home Theater, Media Room and Commercial Curtains
The Acousti-Curtain™ is a revolutionary new product, sound absorbing drapery primarily designed to absorb more sound than standard decorative curtains. These curtains are made with sound absorbing material and are ideally used where control of acoustic reflection off of glass and ambient light control are required. These acoustical curtains feature a core material of naturally fire resistant wool fabric that is sandwiched between a decorative fabric and a blackout liner. The wool core material has also been shown to continuously filter harmful VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) from the air. The Acousti Curtains product will also reflect thermal energy and block light when drawn across a window or doorway. The Acousti Curtain product is custom designed to fit and match your interior design specifications. Please call for a quote.
Acousti-Curtain™ Sound Absorbing Drapery
• High quality construction
• PFR or IFR face layer and lining fabrics
• Excellent sound absorption characteristics
• Wool core will absorb, filter and breakdown harmful VOC’s from the air
• Curtains will reflect thermal energy
• Custom designed for any application
• Variety of fabrics available to choose from
Recommended options include a stationary "valance" curtain at the top to cover the track when open and create an upper frame. Also consider a "return", which is an added bit of material at the end of a curtain panel that makes a 90 degree turn to the wall for that finishing touch, plus better light blockage.
Note: The Acoustic-Curtain™ does not block sound transmission and should not be used as a noise barrier.
Our Curtain Types:
We have 2 types of Acoustical/Blackout Acoustic-Curtain™ Home Theater Curtains to choose from:
- Single-Sided Acoustic - finished hems on one side only - minimal sound and good light blockage
- Double-Sided Acoustic - double-sided for "room dividers" - good sound and great light blockage
Our Standard Curtain Specifications:
- Width: virtually any curtain width is available
- Height: up to 9' - call us about heights greater than 9'
- Fullness = We recommend and use 75% Fullness (fabric used is 1.75 times the overall curtain width, so the pleats have a wonderful draping effect). For even more luxurious draping effect, we can also make 100%, or 150% fullness curtains, but the cost goes up substantially and these require quite a bit of stack-back width area when open. To save money, we can make 50% fullness, but these curtains do not have quite the full pleated effect.
- Pleats: 4 inch Pinch, or Box Pleats are the most Standard top Pleats- contact us for other options
- Hemming: 4 inch Finished Bottom Hem, 2 inch Finished Side Hem
- Webbing: 3 inch Jute Webbing
- Hooks: Hook and Loop included every every 4 inches on Center - contact us for other options
- Stack-Back: for a 2-panel Bi-Part center pull curtain, allow a minimum of 15% "stack-back" area on each side when curtain is open and for a single full-pull curtain, allow a minimum of 30% "stack-back" area on one side when the curtain is open - contact us for specific stack-back on each curtain type.

Curtain FullnessWhen curtains are sewn gathered, or tied to have pleating, they are described as curtains with fullness. Standard theatrical drapes are constructed using box pleats (see image at right). Pleating breaks up the plane of a flat curtain, allowing it to provide more depth of visual field and block more light. Using 1.5 times the width of the fabric used in a flat curtain yields a curtain with 50% fullness. One 54" wide piece of fabric will be pleated down to 36". Using 1.75 times the number of fabric widths in a flat curtain, the pleated curtain will have 75% fullness (e.g., one 47" wide piece of fabric will be pleated down to 27" to obtain 75% fullness). This is what we recommend for Acoustic-Curtain™ Theater Curtains Pinch pleats (see image at right) are most commonly used on light and medium weight fabrics with at least 100% fullness. Knife Pleats (see image at right) are most commonly used on light weight fabrics with 100% fullness or more. This treatment provides a consistent fullness across the width of a drape. Pinch pleats are most commonly used on light and medium weight fabrics with at least 100% fullness. Flat curtains (see image at right) are generally used in drops, cycloramas and masking. If you're still a bit uncertain about the right amount of fullness for your needs, please contact us.
